Commissions

The Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) is the fastest and most manoeuvrable piece of rescue equipment utilised by Surf Life Savers. The IRB is very versatile in being able to effect rescues and transport the patient back to shore very quickly. It can support large numbers of people in times of mass rescue, or provide roving patrols over distances of 5-10km to allow Surf Life Savers to monitor large stretches of beach in between the recognised patrolled bathing areas. Other types of powercraft used in Surf Life Saving include Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) and Jet Skis. Twice a year, at the start and end of the summer season (see diary for location and exact dates), SLSA Wales hold a training and examinations weekend. These are a must for members new to IRB's, covering all the skills and techniques necessary for the safe and effective use of this rescue craft. Further courses are also available on request to the IRB Commission.
