Below are the competition dates for 2019. We are still looking for clubs to host the Ocean championships and ask interested parties to email sport@slsawales.org.uk by the end of November.

Welsh Stillwater Championships 2019
26/27 January - Youth, Open & Masters Stillwaters (Swansea pool)

3 February - Nipper Stillwaters (Swansea pool)

Welsh Ocean Championships 2019
13/14 July - Welsh Nipper Championships
20/21 July - Youth, Seniors & Masters Welsh Ocean Championships

Dates of the ranking events, mini leagues and other events will be announced on the SLSA wales calendar shortly.

Change to nipper events for 2019
Pool Events:
As mentioned last year, the older 3 age groups of the nipper categories (U11,U12.U13) will be moving to a full junior manikin.

The event will run similarly to the existing Manikin Carry Race however the manikin will be at the bottom of the pool within the 4m changeover zone situated between the 23m and 27m mark. The manikin carry techniques will follow the same rules as the junior/open competition but no front crawl tow will be permitted.

A full rule book with updated events will follow shortly.

Ocean Events:
In order to aid the transition from the Nipper Board to the 10ft 6 Malibu boards. SLSA Wales is making some changes to the specification of board allowed to be raced in the U12 & U13 Nipper ages. We are introducing the allowed use of an 8ft 10 Board.
In 2019 these age groups can choose to race on the transitional 8’10 soft boards.
In 2020 the 8’10 soft board will be mandatory for U12 & U13 year old age groups in nippers.

When moving to juniors the U13 age group will have the optional of using the 8’10 soft board or they may choose to race a 10’6 Board.

SLSA Wales in collaboration with SLS GB will be running an officials course this winter. In this years ocean champs, only 6 of the 30 clubs had an official helping out on the beach. We encourage all clubs to send one representative to this one day course to ensure a smooth running of the competitions. If interested email sport@slsawales.org.uk

Appeal for help
SLSA Wales is voluntary organisation and we are always looking for more volunteers to make these events such a success for all our competitors. If you would like to get involved in officiating and helping out please contact sport@slsawales.org.uk If we do not get enough support we will not run the competition.
