Congratulations to Alun Humphreys from the Rhondda(Cold Knap)Lifeguard Club who has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Queen`s New Year`s Honour List. Alun who has been involved in lifesaving with the Rhondda club since the late 1960s`, was also one of the pioneers in the use of Avon Seariders along the south Wales coast, by our lifeguard clubs. During the World Championships held on Fistral Beach, September 1994, Alun was famously filmed, rescuing the rescue boat in big surf, just off the headland.
