News

Over the recent weeks SLSA Wales has been regularly monitoring the developments regarding COVID 19,, and has been discussing how we as a governing body are able to maintain (where possible) opportunities for our members to undergo assessments – either for employment reasons (lifeguards/surf instructors etc.) or as a requirement to enter lifesaving sport competitions.

As you know, SLSA Wales released a statement last week as a result of the announcement from the Resuscitation Council UK. Our position was to suspend life support and first aid training with immediate effect. This is in fact one step further than the official guidance from the Resuscitation Council UK, however this position still stands. We do however, wish to provide clarity for those
who are reliant on holding a current NVBLQ for employment purposes.

First Aid, Life Support and water-based rescue training

All Clubs and member organisations should suspend this type of training with immediate effect, until further notice

Assessments

NVBLQ re-assessments (for employment purposes)
• Those who have recently expired awards (i.e. between the end of last season and now) will be given an extension to the validity period of their award (now valid until 30th September 2020).
• Those whose award is due to expire since now until 30 September 2020 will also be given an extension to the validity period of their award (now valid until 30 September 2020).

NVBLQ initial assessments (for employment purposes)

All Clubs and member organisations should suspend assessments with immediate effect, until further notice. For those seeking employment with the RNLI, please be advised that contingency measures have been put in place to limit the impact on individuals.
Please contact your local RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor for more information

All other re-assessments (for lifesaving sport purposes)

• Those who have recently expired awards (i.e. between the end of last season and now) will be given an extension to the validity period of their award (now valid until 30th September 2020).
• Those whose award is due to expire since now until 30 September 2020 will also be given an extension to the validity period of their award (now valid until 30 September 2020).

All other initial assessments (for lifesaving sport purposes)

All Clubs and member organisations should suspend assessments with immediate effect, until further notice.

All Other Surf Lifesaving Activities

All Clubs and member organisations should suspend all surf lifesaving activities with immediate effect, until further notice. This advice also includes use of the clubhouse facilities and group outdoor training of any nature.
