You are here > news > An appeal for results information of the 1994 and 1996 Lifesaving World Championships

News

With many Welsh Clubs taking part in these events, can you help us find some missing results?

In this quiet(!) Covid-19 time the ILS Sport Commission has been working hard in updating all the Lifesaving World Championships (Rescue) result records from 1994 to 2018. These are the National Team (Open and Youth), InterClub (Open and Youth), Masters, IRB and Surf Boat medallists records.

It has been a big task (especially the Masters with all the various age groups) and also a challenge in finding all the results. When completed this data will be displayed on the ILS website, so you will be able to see who won what in what event and year and so on.

We offer a big thank-you to Phil McGibbon, who initiated this project, and John Martin and David Vervaecke doing the IT work to collate and display the information.

Unfortunately, although we have all of the National Team data, we cannot locate the 1994 Interclub and Surf Boat results and the 1996 InterClub, Masters and Surf Boat results. This is therefore an appeal if anyone has a copy of any of these results, for the WLS Championships it would be appreciated if you could forward them to the ILS Sport Commission Secretary, Jelle Meintsma, at meintsmaj@gmail.com

We have also been sorting through the results of the World Lifesaving Championships (pre ILS times) for 1974, 1981, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1990 and 1992. These will also appear on the ILS website soon. We already have the results of previous Federation International de Sauvetage (FIS) Championships.

We offer a big thank-you to the ILS Secretary General Dr Harald Vervaecke PdD who initiated this project and John Holt, Arno Eberle, Greg Allum, Peter George and Quinta Turton for going into the archives trying to find the results.
