News

At the 2021 Annual General Meeting held virtually online on Sunday 21st March, Hugh Murry was named as Surf Life Saver of the year for 2020.

Hugh is a member of Sker Surf Life Saving club and also the Chair of our Lifesaving Commision.

Hugh`s citation, reads as:

2020 and the Covid epidemic resulted in Surf Life Saving coming to an abrupt stop together with many of the other normal activities we previously took for granted.

Hugh has worked on behalf of Surf Life Saving Wales during the pandemic to maintain our position as an effective organisation during these testing times.

He has worked tirelessly with other ‘like minded’ organisations during this period to keep Surf Life Saving Wales as a leading lifesaving organization in the UK and has ensured our award structure remains relevant and fit for purpose during these challenging times.

This has involved many hours of work and ongoing challenges at a time when perhaps for many of us Surf Life Saving and ‘beach life’ was put in the background in our day to day lives.

In view of this, the Board of Trustees feel there would be no more worthy candidate for Surf Life Saver of the Year 2020 other than Hugh Murray.

Congratulations and a big thanks to Hugh on behalf of SLSA Wales and in his response, Hugh expressed his surprise at receiving this honour and paid tribute to the `team` in supporting him in surf lifesaving, during incredible difficult times.
