Get ready SLSA Wales Members! In April, Trent Maxwell, better known as Lifeguard Maxi from Australia’s Network Ten hit TV show Bondi Rescue, will be UK bound to meet local nippers and Juniors all in the name of spreading the message of Water Safety.
Date: Tuesday 12th April 2022
Venue: Aberavon Beach, Port Talbot
Cost: £5 per member
Time:
Session 1: 11am – 12:30pm U8 & U9 (members who turn 8 and 9 in 2022)
Session 2: 12:30pm – 2:30pm U10, U11, U12 (members who turn 10, 11 or 12 in 2022)
Session 3: 2:30pm – 4:30pm U13/Y13 & Youth 13 (Nipper Juniors who turn 13 in 2022 & members who turn 14 or 15 in 2022)
Each session will include:
An Educational Talk - where the children will get the opportunity to listen, watch, learn and interact with Maxi as he talks about:
Beach Safety Education, understanding beach signage and how to stay safe at the beach.
Surf Education, recognising a rip, and learning where it is safe to swim.
Self-Care in the sun, how to look after and protect your health in summer.
Intro to Fire Safety education and what to do in the event of a fire.
Post talk Q&A session where Maxi will answer everyone’s questions.
Theory into practice on the beach:
Simulated rescue of a casualty by Maxi.
Intro to CPR, DRS ABCD – mock-up scenario children could find themselves in.
Beach games, flag races / relays, Board relays.
Final Q&A, recap and your chance to get a photo with Maxi.
There will also be a chance for you to buy a signed set of "Maxi the lifeguard" books (£22 per set of 3).
REGISTRATION
Clubs can register their members through the form sent to club secretaries.
To make this event fair for all SLSA Wales members we will initially be limiting numbers attender per club.
Initially this will be 4 members, per age group, per club.
On 23rd March those initial places not used will then be reallocated to clubs wanting more spaces.
If children are not lucky enough to be selected they can still come down to the beach to see Maxi and get a photograph just not take part in the talks or training.
CLUB COACHES
To make this day run smooth each club will also need to provide 2 qualified coaches for every session attended. These names will need to be confirmed before the event.
