SLSGB will be scrutinising boards and skis to ensure they meet the correct criteria.

Surf Ski`s
We are aware that some manufacturers are making skis for recreational paddling, but these do not meet ILS standards. They are not marked, and you would not be able to tell the difference unless you pick it up to weight. In the recent Cornish championships, this included but was not limited to brands such as Vanquish, Fenn and icon.

If you are found with an underweight ski you will not be able to race them. If your ski is underweight you cannot simply add water/sand to make weight, the additional weight needs to be a permanent fixture for safety reasons. Speak to your ski manufacture for more details.

As a reminder:
Surf skis must conform to ILS specifications including the following:
Weight: minimum 18 kg
Length: maximum 5.80m
Width: minimum width at widest point of hull is 480mm and shall not include any rubbing strips, moulding or additional protective mouldings.

Detailed specifications for surf skis are described in a separate document located at:

Boards
Surf boards must conform to ILS specifications including the following:
Weight: minimum 7.6 kg
Length: maximum 3.2 m
